Lemongrass & Parsley 3-in-1 Herbal Wash (Facial Cleanser, Hair Rinse & Body Wash)

Welcome to another edition of #HerbalCareThursday! Today, we are exploring the power of botanical synergy. By combining fresh Lemongrass and Parsley, you can create a single concentrated herbal infusion that transforms into three essential daily care products: a refining Facial Cleanser, a clarifying Hair Rinse, and an Herbal Body Wash.

Why Lemongrass & Parsley?

When formulating natural beauty routines, pairing herbs with complementary active compounds provides a balanced, head-to-toe effect:

Lemongrass: Rich in natural citral, lemongrass acts as a gentle astringent. It helps break down excess scalp sebum, refines skin pores, and delivers a crisp, refreshing natural aroma.

Parsley: High in apigenin (a soothing flavonoid), Vitamin C, and chlorophyll, parsley calms skin irritation, protects against environmental oxidative stress, and adds natural shine to hair strands.

Together, lemongrass deep cleans without stripping, while parsley soothes and restores moisture balance.

Ingredients:

Dried Herbs: 1/4 cup lemongrass + 1/4 cup parsley (1/2 cup total dried).

Fresh Herbs: ~3/4 cup lemongrass + ~3/4 cup parsley (1.5 cups total fresh).

Water: 3 cups distilled water (boiled and cooled slightly).

Tools Needed

Kitchen shears / scissors

Heat safe container

Fine-mesh strainer or cheesecloth

1 Small spray/pump bottle (for Facial Cleanser)

2 Containers (for Hair Rinse & Herbal Body Wash)

Instructions:

Use kitchen shears to cut your fresh lemongrass and parsley leaves and stems into small 1/2-inch pieces. Place chopped herbs into a container and gently bruise them.

Pour 3 cups of hot (near-boiling) water over the herbs. Adjust this to the size of your containers. Cover tightly with a lid or plate. Steep and allow to cool to room temperature. Press or strain the herbs.

Facial Cleanser (Tones & Refines Pores)

Fill your small spray or pump bottle with 1/2 cup of the plain infusion.

Mist onto clean skin or apply with a reusable cotton pad. It works to tone, tighten pores, and balance surface oil.

Hair Rinse (Clarifies & Adds Shine)

Fill your container with the infusion.

Optional Addition: Add 1–2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice or raw apple cider vinegar for additional scalp clarification.

Pour over damp hair and scalp. Massage for 2–3 minutes, then rinse with cool water.

Herbal Body Wash

In your container, combine equal parts (1:1 ratio) of the remaining herbal infusion with a natural saponin base, such as a strong soap nut decoction or gentle liquid castile soap.

Use directly on skin during your shower or pour into warm bathwater for a calming body soak.

My Personal Notes:

Facial Cleanser: The crisp lemongrass notes in the facial cleanser leave my skin feeling so cool and invigorated; it is so invigorating in the morning!

Leave-In Scrunch for Wavy Hair: While you can rinse this out after a few minutes, I actually prefer leaving it right in my hair! I have naturally wavy hair, so I use this in place of a styling product to scrunch my damp waves. It gives lovely soft shape and natural shine without any heavy buildup.

Towel Care Warning: If you leave the rinse in your hair like I do, skip your fancy or white towels! Because these are concentrated natural botanicals, they can leave stains on linens, so I always stick to an older towel after scrunching.

Because this herbal preparation is 100% natural and contains zero synthetic chemical preservatives, proper storage is essential:

Keep all liquid portions stored in airtight containers inside your refrigerator.

Use within 2 days for maximum botanical potency and freshness.

Freeze extra infusion into ice cubes! Thaw an ice cube whenever you need a quick cooling facial refresh or scalp treatment.
